We like to keep everyone informed of potential health risks to your pets. Recently, there were cases of the relatively new Pneumovirus discovered at the PBC Animal Shelter. There is no vaccine for Pneumovirus so far. Pneumovirus can cause the following symptoms:

  • Coughing
  • Hacking
  • Nasal discharge
  • Lethargy
  • Lack of appetite
  • Fever
  • In some severe cases can cause pneumonia

Pneumovirus is highly contagious. Places of high-risk transmission would be grooming facilities, dog daycares, and dog parks. As dogs become more social, we will continue to see more communicable illnesses. While this is not cause to freak out and ground your dog from his best buds, it is a call to be a smart doggie parent. Make sure the places you take your dog to have protocols in place for the intake of animals.
